Speaking task

Task: “Have You Ever...?” Interviews

Objective:
Practice using the present perfect and past simple to talk about experiences.

Instructions:

1. Pair Up: Find a partner to work with.

2. Take Turns: One person asks a “Have you ever...?” question to their partner, using the present perfect tense.

   • Example: “Have you ever visited another country?”

3. Answering:

   • If your answer is Yes, your partner should ask follow-up questions in the past simple to get more details about that experience.

     • Example:

       • Have you ever visited another country?

       • Yes.

       • Which country did you visit? When did you go?

   • If your answer is No, your partner should move on to a new question.

4. Switch Roles: After a few questions, switch roles so both of you get a chance to ask and answer.

5. Share with the Class: At the end, each pair will share one interesting answer with the class. Be ready to talk about what you learned about your partner!

Example Questions and Follow-Ups:

1. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever visited another country?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? Which country did you visit? When did you go?

2. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever met a famous person?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? Who did you meet? Where did you meet them?

3. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever tried a strange food?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? What did you try? Did you like it?

4. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever missed a class?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? Why did you miss it? How did you catch up?

5. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever been to a concert?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? What concert did you go to? When was it?

6. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever played a sport?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? What sport did you play? Did you enjoy it?

7. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever been on a rollercoaster?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? Which rollercoaster did you go on? Were you scared?

8. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever won a prize?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? What prize did you win? When did you win it?

9. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever lost something important?

   • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? What did you lose? Did you find it again?

10. Present Perfect Question: Have you ever cooked a meal?

    • Past Simple Follow-up: Yes? What did you cook? Did it turn out well?

Remember:

• Use present perfect for the main question (Have you ever…?).

• Use past simple for follow-up questions (When did you go? What did you eat?).

Goal: Try to get as many details as possible about your partner’s experiences!

Writing Task

2. Sales Report Comparing Monthly Sales Performance

Instructions:

• Write a report comparing sales performance for two consecutive months.

• Mention any factors that influenced sales (e.g., promotions, seasonality).

• Write 150–200 words and use formal, neutral language.

Example:

Monthly Sales Report: August vs. September

Introduction
This report compares the sales performance of August and September for ABC Fashion Store. Overall, sales decreased slightly from August to September.

Sales Data
In August, total sales amounted to $50,000, while in September, sales dropped to $45,000, representing a 10% decrease. The drop can be attributed to the end of the summer season, which led to lower demand for seasonal items such as swimsuits and sunglasses.

Promotions and Marketing
In August, we ran a successful Summer Sale, which boosted sales by offering discounts of up to 30%. No major promotions were offered in September, which likely contributed to the lower sales figures.

Conclusion
